Remembrance Sunday

remembrance-day-07.jpg

Here is a photo of the Remembrance Parade. Following the laying of wreaths at the two memorials in the village we proceeded into the Priory Church for the service. About 220 people from the village came to the Priory, and among them were some war veterans as well as a large contingent from St. Bees School and the school Combined Cadet Force. Remembrance Sunday is always a big event, but this year saw a bit of a resurgence because this time last year the Priory was closed due to extensive renovations. Everything was moved to the school chapel, which is substantially smaller. Held in parallel with the Remembrance observances there has been a multi-charity sale happening in Old College Hall. Instead of coffee after the service people were encouraged to make their way into Old College Hall to support the various charities represented.

I came across one photo which I ended up submitting, and as I looked at myself it was almost as if I was transported through time. Gazing into my own childhood eyes I wondered at the innocence and simple joy I enjoyed as a child, and reflected upon how complicated life becomes as you grew older. “If you knew then what you know now, would you still be smiling?” It is not as though I don’t enjoy my life now, but the fact is that my memories are both wonderful and burdensome.
