Baptism
Act 2:38
“Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 16:30-34
“”Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.”
We set aside occasional Sundays of the year for those who wish to come and be baptised, or have their children baptised. Baptism is an “effective sign” of being made a part of the Church, the Body of Christ. It assumes a life of repentance. In the case of children coming to be baptised, it assumes someone of genuine faith is bringing them to be baptised, with a view to nurturing that child in the Christian faith until such a time the child is able to take hold of the faith for themselves. As a part of the Church of England we are open to baptising all who come to us. We are also mindful of our responsibilities as a church to make sure that individuals and families are aware of the significance of baptism and that they understand the significance of the vows of Christian obedience that they must make during the service. For more information please contact the vicar. Lars will be pleased to speak with you about baptism, and will fill you in on how to proceed.
